the French & French Style

Boldly sophisticated. Deeply personal. Endlessly layered.

We believe the most beautiful interiors are the ones that feel lived in — layered with color and pattern, full of objects with stories, and shaped around the way a family actually moves through a home.

Our style balances timeless tradition with folk-inspired charm, classic forms with playful, unexpected details. It's expressive without being precious, maximalist without being overwhelming. Grounded in the artistry of Santa Fe and informed by the graciousness of our Southern roots, it's a point of view built around one idea: that a home should be joyful, personal, and full of life.

Meet the Frenches

Their story began with a leap of faith — a cross-country move to a plot of land south of Santa Fe, purchased sight unseen. With Matt's background in building and Heather's instinctual eye for design, they built their first home by hand, laying the foundation for everything that followed.

Founded in 2015, French & French Interiors is now a nationally recognized studio celebrated for bold color, folk-inspired sensibility, and a touch of whimsy. Every project is shaped by the same conviction: that the best homes are deeply personal, and that beauty should always serve the way you live.

Principal + Creative Director

Heather French

Heather has always been drawn to how people live — the objects they keep, the light they seek, the rooms that feel like home. As Creative Director and Principal, she brings a maximalist sensibility and deeply personal touch to every project, creating interiors as layered as the people who inhabit them. A Florida native, Auburn grad, and avid gardener, her background in anthropology and natural medicine only deepened what she already knew intuitively: that a well-designed space can genuinely change how you feel.

Principal + Director of Special Projects

Matt French

Matt grew up in Alabama, spending weekends at his mother's import store — surrounded by objects with stories, provenance, and craft. As Principal and Director of Special Projects, he bridges construction and design with rare fluency, bringing a restless maker's mind and more than 20 years in the Southwest to every project. Off the clock, you'll find him deep in the backcountry — on a bike, on a board, or prototyping his next custom idea.

Our Design Process & Timeline

Our full-service interior design process is designed to give you clarity and confidence at every stage — from initial discovery to final installation.

INITITAL DISCOVERY

We begin with a conversation to understand your property, brand, goals, and timeline, followed by an on-site walkthrough to inform a tailored proposal.

CONTRACT & PROPOSAL

We’ll send a detailed contract and proposal that outlines scope, timeline, and design fees specific to your project. Then We’ll pull together inspiration for your project and complete this phase with a series of presentations until we’re both confident on vision for each space in your home.

CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT

Once concept is agreed upon, we’ll begin the design phase in which we’ll finalize layouts and lighting plans, select furnishings, fixtures, finishes, etc. and present to you renderings of each space. We’ll complete this phase with a design development presentation where you’ll see everything together alongside samples and renderings of each space.

PROCUREMENT & PURCHASING

During procurement, we bring your approved design plans to life by coordinating with trusted suppliers and artisans to quote, order, produce, inspect, and warehouse all furnishings. You’ll receive invoices for approval, and once payment is made, items are purchased, stored, and prepared for installation.

FINAL INSTALL

Lighting and materials like tile and wallpaper are installed during construction, while furnishings, bedding, and accessories are shipped to our warehouse. After construction is complete, we’ll schedule a final installation to place everything in your home, making it fully move-in ready.

“They made the entire process so easy from start to finish.

We were living out of town, so depended on them for everything! We were blown away by the French & French design presentation – their creativity, use of colors and mix of fabrics was amazing! Custom upholstery and window treatments were designed and created for each room. Matt did custom art painting, and Heather even hand-selected special antique furniture; and we loved every piece!”
